Northern Michigan University students have access to NMU alumni around the world on Wildcats Connect, an online platform for sharing information, asking/offering advice, building relationships and more. Faculty and staff are also welcome to participate.
Wildcats Connect was launched in early 2021. The community of Wildcats supports various stages of life, including student and post-graduate experiences, career and life changes, and retirement.
“I am so grateful to have Wildcats Connect,” said Brittany Nardi, a 2021 NMU graduate. “I had less than three weeks left of my senior year and was worried that I wouldn't get a job. I put an ask out and within days had seven replies, which led to me landing my dream job! I even connected with alumni who are also residing in the same area as me to learn more about the city. I couldn't recommend the Wildcats Connect enough to current students.”
With the platform, students can look for internship opportunities, connect alumni currently doing their dream jobs and get resume or grad school application feedback. These connections can also help with career paths, relocation assistance and interview advice.
“Wildcats Connect is a great tool to utilize my ever-growing NMU network.” said Kasey Scheibe, a 2015 NMU graduate. “From faculty to students to other alumni in the field, this platform gives me the opportunity to learn from other Wildcats while giving back my own set of experiences to better serve the NMU community. I have been able to connect with not only colleagues from my time at school, but begin to connect with new faces.”
Kylie Bunting, digital engagement architect for NMU Alumni Relations, encourages students to connect soon to take full advantage of the platform.
“Once a Wildcat, always a Wildcat,” Bunting said. “This is a place for the Wildcat community to be a resource for each other. Ask for what you need, offer what you have. We're here to support the process.”
