Baltes is College of Business' Executive in Residence

John Baltes

Northern Michigan University's College of Business will host NMU alumnus John Baltes as the 2022 Executive in Residence Sept. 27-29. He is the retired CEO of SVA, a multi-entity professional services company. Baltes will share insights from his 30 years of leadership and business strategy experience, as well as a strong data systems background, with the NMU and Marquette communities.

Baltes will address several College of Business graduate and undergraduate courses, and meet with NMU faculty, staff and student groups. His residence will also include a Business After Hours reception open to the public hosted in collaboration with Lake Superior Community Partnership from 5-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, in the Northern Center Ballrooms. Light bites will be provided and a cash bar will be available. The reception will include a presentation and Q&A, as well as a meet and greet with NMU campus and community members and Marquette area business leaders.

Baltes graduated magna cum laude from NMU in 1986 with a bachelor's degree in information systems. He was also a running back on the Wildcat football team.

As CEO of SVA, Baltes oversaw the company's four divisions: tax and accounting services; business consulting services; wealth and investment management; and trust and estate services. He is a tenured member of SVA's Board of Directors, which he has served as chair. Baltes is credited with founding SVA Consulting and has been instrumental in leading many firm-wide growth initiatives around business development, change and innovation.
