Northern Michigan University will celebrate Native American Heritage Month in November with a series of presentations and other activities on campus and in the community.
The NMU Center for Native American Studies has planned five faculty presentations at Peter White Public Library. All will begin at 7 p.m. on the respective dates. The topics and presenters are:
Oct. 25: Discussion of Joy Harjo's work, “Reclaiming Indigenous Voice to Vision,” by April Lindala.
Nov. 1: World view through art expression, by Amber Morseau.
Nov. 8: Climate and American Indian literature, by Amy Hamilton.
Nov. 10: Removal histories, by Martin Reinhardt.
Nov. 15: An American Sunrise, by Joy Harjo, with music by Waa Wi Ye Yaa
The Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center in Gries Hall is hosting a related exhibition titled “The 7th Fire: A Decolonizing Experience.” A day to “rock your mocs” will be held Nov. 15, and boarding school visibility week begins Nov. 22.
