Jimmy Bruce, a Northern Michigan University alumnus from Escanaba, is serving as a member of the Commission on Services to the Aging (CSA) through July 28, 2025. He was appointed to the role by Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.
The CSA is a 15-member commission that advises the state government and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on matters regarding policies that affect older Americans, as well as approving grants and participating in the development of state plans and budgeting for programs benefiting older Americans.
Bruce graduated from NMU with a bachelor's degree in physical education in 1966 and his master's in 1967. Before his appointment to the commission, he worked as a member of the Michigan AARP Executive Council, helping to put together outreach events like a veteran's event in Escanaba in 2018.
