The English department at Northern Michigan University will kick off its annual Visiting Writers Series with a reading by notable essayist and author Nicole Walker from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20. The reading will be in Jamrich Hall 1318 and is open to the public. The event is the first of several that will take place on campus throughout the 2018-19 academic year.
Walker is the author of two forthcoming books: “Sustainability: A Love Story” and “A Survival Guide for Life in the Ruins.” Her previously authored works include “Where the Tiny Things Are,” “Egg,” “Micrograms,” “Quench Your Thirst with Salt” and “This Noisy Egg.”
Walker’s literary work has been published in several magazines, including Orion, Boston Review, Creative Nonfiction, Brevity, The Normal School and others. She is a recipient of a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts and was the nonfiction winner of Sundress Publications’ “Best of the Net” in 2013 and 2014. Walker currently works as a nonfiction editor at Diagram, a literary magazine, and she is an associate professor at Northern Arizona University.
