Cuba's Audiovisual Landscape Explored

Michelle Leigh Farell, a professor of Spanish and Portuguese at Fairfield University, will discuss new audiovisual landscapes in Cuba when she presents “Is Havana Isolated, or is Washington?” at Northern Michigan University. Her talk is scheduled from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, in 1311 Jamrich Hall. 

Farell will address a number of different topics, including contemporary women filmmakers, Cuban film made off of the island, the Muestra Joven film and independent audiovisual showcase, and the offline internet and audiovisual distribution platform el “paquete semanal.”

In her research, Farrell focuses on Cuban and Venezuelan film and the changing audiovisual landscapes in both countries through emerging voices with access to digital production and alternative distribution opportunities.
