NMU first-generation college students, whose parents or guardians did not obtain bachelor's degrees, are invited to gather at the Wildcat statue at noon on Friday, Nov. 8, for a group drone photo. A reception with pizza, Wildcat cookies and other treats will follow in Harden Hall.
The date marks the anniversary of the Higher Education Act of 1965, which increased federal money given to universities, created scholarships, gave low-interest loans for students and established a National Teachers Corps. The day is now used on college campuses across the country to celebrate the presence and experiences of first-generation students, faculty and staff.
