Marquette, Mich.—Northern Michigan University Olympic Training Site weightlifter Bret Pfeiffer placed first overall yesterday at the 2019 Nike National Junior Championships and Pan Am Trials powered by Rogue in Lombard, Ill.
Pfeiffer, of Charleston, Ill., who competed in the 81 kg weight class, lifted 132 kg (291lbs.) in the snatch and 153 kg (337lbs.) in the clean and jerk. His totals earned him first place in the snatch, clean and jerk and total.
The win earned him a spot on the Junior Pan Am Championships team. The Junior Pan American Championships will take place May 20-28 in Havana, Cuba.
“It was a good weekend for our team,” said NMU-OTS coach Adam Latella. “We will look to keep the momentum going as we prepare for the University Nationals in March.”
Also competing this weekend was Calvin La. La, who was competing in his first national meet, made five of his six attempts. He ended the event in 13th place in the 67 kg weight class with a 186 kg (410lbs.) total.
