Actress Diane Guerrero to Discuss Memoir

Guerrero

Actress Diane Guerrero from Orange is the New Black and Jane the Virgin will speak at Northern Michigan University about her life and activism in the wake of her parents' deportation when she was 14. She will discuss her memoir, In the Country We Love: My Family Divided, at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, in the Northern Center ballrooms.

Born in the U.S., Guerrero was able to remain in the country and continue her education. Family friends took her in and helped her build a life and an acting career without the support of her family.

Guerrero volunteers with the nonprofit Immigrant Legal Resource Center as well as Mi Familia Vota, an organization that promotes civic involvement. She has been named an Ambassador for Citizenship and Naturalization by the White House.

Tickets for this event are $5 for the general public and free for students with NMU ID.
