NMU Foundation Reaches Over $10.3 Million in Philanthropic Support for First Time

The Northern Michigan University Foundation has closed the fiscal year with over $10.3 million committed in philanthropic support, marking the first time in NMU's history that the NMU Foundation has surpassed $10 million in a single fiscal year.

"Reaching this milestone is more than a fundraising achievement. It is a powerful reflection of what our Wildcat community can accomplish together," said Nicole Blemberg, CEO of the NMU Foundation. "We are deeply grateful to every donor whose generosity is creating opportunities for students and helping Northern continue to thrive. This record-setting year builds tremendous momentum as we look toward an even brighter future for NMU."

Support came from a variety of groups, including alumni, donors, and corporate partners. Their investments create lasting opportunities for students, strengthen academic programs, and advance the university's mission.

"It is an honor to serve on the NMU Foundation Board of Trustees and be part of an organization that is so deeply committed to supporting NMU and its students," said Jesse Bell ’00 BS, president of the NMU Foundation Board of Trustees. “On behalf of my fellow Board Members, I want to thank every donor for investing in our students and our future. Their support strengthens the Foundation's ability to advance the university's strategic priorities and ensures that future generations of Wildcats have the opportunity to succeed."

Philanthropic support to the NMU Foundation fuels scholarships, academic excellence, student success initiatives, faculty support, and transformative campus projects. Each gift, regardless of size, helps expand access to higher education, enrich the student experience, and strengthen Northern's ability to meet the evolving needs of students and the communities it serves.

“As someone who is new to NMU, I have been inspired by the extraordinary commitment of our alumni, donors, faculty, staff, and community to putting students first," said NMU President Chris Olsen. "This historic milestone reflects a university that believes deeply in the power of education and the life-changing opportunities it creates. Combined with the incredible natural beauty and close-knit community that make Northern such a special place, this spirit of generosity positions us to provide an exceptional experience for students.”
