Spooner Grants Support Student Research

Northern Michigan University's College of Graduate Studies and Research has selected three students to receive the 2021-2022 Charles C. Spooner Grant Awards to support their scholarly research. Each will be awarded $500.

Recipients of the 2021-2022 Spooner Grants, along with their project titles, are:

Peter Bartot, a senior medicinal plant chemistry major, “Temporal Screening of Sulfated Tropane Alkaloids in Datura spp. for Insecticidal Properties.”

Sydney Climie, a graduate student in psychological sciences, “Saliva Based microRNA Expression May Be Associated with Concussion Symptom Severity.”

Hilary Rinsland, a graduate biology student, “Determining Bartonella Prevalence and Diversity in North American Pika Fleas.”

The Spooner Grant, or Spooner Student Research Fund, provides money to enhance the academic experience and professional growth of students by offering opportunities to engage in research and sponsored activities. It is made possible by an endowment established by the late Charles C. Spooner.

The research grants support students who are engaged in research. The proposed project must  be under the supervision of a faculty member and endorsed by the department. Eligible applicants are enrolled full-time students in a degree program who have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 at the undergraduate or graduate level.
