The Honorable Judge Robert Allen Edgar (Al Edgar), a Munising native, will present a guest Constitution Day lecture at Northern Michigan University titled "The Supreme Court Unhinged: A Retired Federal Judge's Perspective on the Constitution and the Supreme Court." The event will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday Sept 17, in room 2904 of NMU's Science Building. It is free and open to the public.
Edgar is a retired federal judge and Vietnam veteran. He was appointed to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee by Ronald Reagan. He served as chief judge from 1998-2005 and took senior status in October of 2005.
Edgar earned his bachelor's degree at Davison College and graduated from Duke University School of Law. He served in the U.S Army from 1965-1967, held a private practice in Chattanooga, Tenn. from 1967-1985, and was a Tennessee state representative from 1970-1972.
