NMU alumna Jeannine Barna is the new health and wellness coordinator at the Northern Lights YMCA Delta Center. The Ishpeming native earned a bachelor's degree in biology/physiology and subsequently obtained a master's in biology with a focus on reproductive biology.
According to the YMCA announcement, Barna previously served as a medical assistant and instructor at NMU, teaching anatomy and physiology, advanced cell biology and biochemistry. She also served as office manager for a medical practice.
“I have genuinely enjoyed getting to know all the members, program participants and staff [at the YMCA]," she said. "I love communicating with others and sharing the love of health and wellness. I am so looking forward to personal training, teaching group fitness and yoga, and additional wellness programs.”
In her spare time, Barna enjoys hiking, camping, skiing, snowboarding, yoga, meditation, spending time at the beach and immersing herself in science. She is looking forward to fulfilling the YMCA mission of Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility for the community.
