Northern Michigan University alumna Jackie Jahfetson has been hired as a full-time reporter for The Bismarck Tribune, writing about energy and environmental issues in North Dakota.
Jahfetson graduated with a bachelor's degree in multimedia journalism in 2019. During her time at NMU, she was the editor-in-chief of The North Wind, the university's student-led newspaper. When she was an NMU senior and aspiring journalist, her profile stated, “I enjoy interviewing and profiling individuals with life-changing stories. As a journalist, I feel like it is my responsibility to help educate the public and shine light on issues that need to be addressed.”
The experience she gained on The North Wind helped to prepare Jahfetson for a journalism career. She freelanced and wrote feature pieces for The Daily Mining Gazette in Houghton, and worked as a city reporter for The Mining Journal.
Following visits to western North Dakota, Jahfetson moved to the Dickinson area, where she freelanced for The Dickinson Press. She worked as a temporary copy editor for the Bismarck Tribune before becoming city reporter at the Dickinson newspaper in October 2020, a role she filled until being hired full time at the Tribune.
