Alumni Selected for 'Best Lawyers' Listing

Millenbach (left) and Lowney

NMU alumni Paul Millenbach ('84) and Stephen Lowney ('80), who represent the Michigan law firm Foster Swift Collins & Smith PC, have been selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America 2021 edition. According to a press release, the list is compiled based on an exhaustive peer-review evaluation. Inclusion is considered a singular honor because attorneys are not required or allowed to pay a fee to be listed.

Millenbach was selected for the practice areas of mass tort litigation/class actions – defendants. He is co-leader of the General Litigation Practice Group at the firm's Southfield office. He has extensive experience in Michigan no-fault litigation, including medical provider reimbursement and first- and third-party defense. Other core components of his practice include a highly specialized transportation and logistics law practice and mass tort defense of asbestos disease cases statewide, including Wayne County. He also assists clients with commercial litigation.

Millenbach was a justice studies major, with a minor in political science. He has served his alma mater as past president of the NMU Alumni Association Board of Directors.

Lowney, a Marquette native, was a history major and business administration minor at Northern. He is included in Best Lawyers in the practice area of employee benefits (ERISA) law.

Lowney is a shareholder in the Lansing office of Foster Swift. His legal practice is in the business and tax areas, with an emphasis on employee stock ownership plans (ESOPs), 401(k) and other defined contribution plans, and other forms of executive equity compensation benefits. He has been listed in Best Lawyers in America since 2005.
