NMU 1995 criminal justice alumnus John Gudwer is Escanaba's new director of Public Safety. He was recently promoted from his previous role as detective/lieutenant after the former director retired.
According to an Escanaba Daily Press story, Gudwer has nearly 24 years' experience in police and fire service in the community. In his new role, he is responsible for leading a department of 30 sworn officers and four non-sworn personnel with an annual budget of approximately $4.4 million.
