Northern Michigan University alumnus Kyle Bladow ('07 BA, '09 MA) will present "Environmental Justice in Louise Erdrich's Speculative Fiction" as the inaugural speaker for the Department of English's new Visiting Scholar Series. His talk is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, in room Peninsula I of the Northern Center. It is open to the public.

Bladow works as an assistant professor of Native American studies at Northland College in Ashland, Wis. He studies the ways literature informs our connections to land and water and our interactions with the more-than-human world. His research encompasses environmental justice, queer ecology, sustainable foodways and contemporary American literature. Bladow studied English while at NMU.

The lecture will address some of the “issues of our time in relation to a giant of American letters,” according to the event description
