Northern Michigan University's online applied workplace leadership program is one of the best organizational leadership bachelor's degrees in the nation, according to a 2023 listing compiled by OrganizationalLeadershipEdu.org. The editors praised the fact that 96% of recent grads are employed or continuing their education. The program, offered through NMU Global Campus, is designed for non-traditional students who have previously earned college credit or an associate degree and want to advance their education on a flexible schedule.
“This exciting course of undergraduate study prepares students to assume in-demand leadership positions as project leaders, team leaders and managers through a robust curriculum that emphasizes elevating critical thinking, ethical decision-making, observational and goal-oriented communication skills,” the editors wrote in their description. “We love the accelerated courses here that are taken just one at a time.”
OrganizationalLeadershipEdu.org made its top selections from among private and public institutions based on the following core criteria: excellent instructors with real-world experience and academic expertise who demonstrate the right empathy, communication skills and command of the material; industry and community connections; top-notch resources and support for students; and wide recognition and reputation in academic and leadership rankings.
“This program was designed in partnership with for profit and non-profit community members to meet their needs,” said NMU Associate Dean Joe Lubig. “The assignment structure and course delivery model meet the needs of our adult learners and their schedules. The faculty-led idea to embed tutorial assistants in the courses to provide one-on-one support in addition to that provided by the instructor has been received so well. Students really access and trust the embedded supports, which speaks to the level of seriousness and commitment of those enrolled in the program.”
