Northern Michigan University 2022 cosmetology graduate Mikaela Bannon will return to the Miss Michigan pageant for a third time next June after recently being crowned Miss Wayne County. The Canton resident earned $1,075 and other gifts in winning the title and three awards: people's choice; miss congeniality; and best onstage interview.

“As I prepare to go to Miss Michigan, I want to ensure that every day is a day spent doing good in the community and promoting my service initiative to bring awareness to skin cancer prevention, inspired by a good friend who is battling metastatic melanoma,” she said in a media story. “It's our goal to ensure that Michiganders are educated about sun safety, have proper sun protection resources, and our ultimate goal is to reduce the statistic.”

Bannon works at Salon TORO in Birmingham as a manager/sales coordinator and head esthetician. She made two previous trips to the Miss Michigan pageant in 2021 and 2023 as Miss Shoreline.
