Boyer-Davis is Students' Choice Commencement Speaker

Stacy Boyer-Davis

Stacy Boyer-Davis, associate professor of accounting, will be the faculty keynote speaker for Northern Michigan University's Dec. 16 commencement. She also serves as assistant department head of accounting and the MBA program in the College of Business.

Boyer-Davis was selected as speaker through a nomination process overseen by ASNMU, the student government organization.

“What a true honor and privilege to receive the Students' Choice Award,” she said. “I am beyond humbled, and in a state of disbelief. To be nominated to share this most special day with the Fall 2023 graduating class and their families and support systems by speaking at commencement is incredibly meaningful to me—the honor of my life. I cannot thank the nominating students and selection committee enough for this most treasured gift, to celebrate their successes at a pinnacle moment in their lives, at commencement.”

Since joining the NMU College of Business faculty in August 2017, Boyer-Davis has received several notable awards and honors. In April of this year, she received an NMU Excellence in Scholarship Award to recognize the extensive number of peer-reviewed journal publications and research presentations to her credit. In October, she received NMU's Excellence in Teaching Award and was also appointed to the Michigan Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA) Board of Directors.

The NMU College of Business presented Boyer-Davis with its Outstanding Research Award in 2020 and named her the Outstanding Undergraduate Teacher and Outstanding Graduate Teacher in consecutive years (2018 and 2019). She served as the Global Campus Extended Learning and Community Engagement Scholar from 2019-2021, and previously earned the inaugural Global Campus Excellence in Online Teaching Award.

Boyer-Davis holds a doctorate in business from Capella University; three master's degrees in human resources, business administration and accounting/financial management from Keller Graduate School of Management; and a bachelor's in accounting from Clarion University of Pennsylvania. She has more than 20 years of accounting and leadership experience serving governmental, for-profit and not-for-profit organizations.

Outside of work, “Dr. Stacy” enjoys spending time with her husband Jim, daughter Autumn, and cat Louise. Her hobbies include hiking, reading, listening to music and watching documentaries.
