U.P. Cyber Institute at NMU Recognized

The Upper Peninsula Cybersecurity Institute (UPCI) at Northern Michigan University is helping the Michigan Economic Development Corporation promote the growth of the state's cyber community by hosting certification and workshop offerings designed to develop local talent in the field. The UPCI, a hub of the Michigan Cyber Range in Ann Arbor, is referenced in an SC Media report titled "The cyber digital divide: How to level the playing field."

Businesses and government institutions in underserved communities are often unable to afford cyber solutions critical for protecting customers' and constitutents' data, or to lure experienced IT professionals away from big cities and wealthy corporations. The story explains how one way to level the playing field is to create a community cyber hub such as the UPCI through the development of nearby academic and economic programs.
