'Dark Queens' Author Discusses Novel

"Let's Talk About Books" poster with "The Dark Queens" cover

Northern Michigan University English professor Lynn Domina will host a webinar with award-winning author Shelly Puhak about her nonfiction debut, The Dark Queens, at 1 p.m., Friday, Feb. 17. The event is part of the continuing series “Let's Talk about Books at NMU.” Registration is required, but free.

In The Dark Queens, Puhak tells the remarkable, little-known story of two trailblazing women in the Early Middle Ages who wield immense power, only to be vilified for daring to rule. She resurrects two real women in all their complexity, painting a richly detailed portrait of an unfamiliar time and striking at the roots of some of the culture's stubborn myths about female power. The Dark Queens proves that the relationships between women can transform the world.
