Northern Michigan University Executive Director of Global Campus Operations Brad Hamel is one of nine recipients of NMU's 2022 Excellence in Service awards. Hamel has taken all the skills he has acquired and all of his institutional knowledge from previous positions and applied them to help grow Northern's online offerings from a decentralized smattering of courses and programs into a highly organized and fast-growing Global Campus.
Hamel has grown in each of the positions he's held at Northern, from ticket operations and alumni relations to advancement technology; but never more so than what he's been able to do in his current role as executive director of Global Campus operations.
Because of Hamel's strategic thinking and organizational applications, the current enrollment success of the Global Campus would not have been possible.
He understands the role Global Campus plays in the current demographic and works to help the departments and faculty develop courses and programs that will attract students to NMU's Global Campus, including students from around the world.
New processes, new partnerships and new growth are all included in what Hamel does for the Global Campus. In addition, he offers his direct attention to students as they navigate through NMU's online admissions, course taking, grades and graduation processes, and works to not only identify any obstacles in students' ways, but he also works to remove those obstacles.
His exemplary hard work and determination was demonstrated during the pandemic, when he stepped up numerous times to assist with the university's COVID-19 mitigation activities, including volunteering at the COVID testing and mask distributions.
