Janet Koski, Northern Michigan University's executive director for Equal Opportunity and Title IX and Equal Opportunity officer, is an Excellence in Service Award recipient. Her long title is indicative of the critical role she plays on campus. She has led this function for the last several years and was a department of one for much of that time.
Koski oversees all faculty and staff searches to help ensure equitable and fair processes, gathering, analyzing and submitting university data for compliance reporting. She also leads complex investigations into potential discrimination, sexual assault or sexual harassment complaints or concerns.
Koski works through these difficult issues in a professional, inclusive and unbiased manner. She understands the importance of giving voice to all sides of an issue and following the policies and procedures so NMU is compliant with legal and regulatory requirements. She effectively works with students, parents, faculty, community members, attorneys, officers and other university Title IX/EO offices.
