Northern Michigan University's School of Clinical Sciences executive secretary Sherida Riipi received an Excellence in Services Award. She is credited for being organized and volunteering to assist with initiatives while maintaining a cheery attitude in the department. She works closely with three programs, the speech clinic and with students attending practicums.
This past fall, Riipi initiated and spearheaded the first annual “School of Clinical Sciences Open Lab Day.” The event drew more than 150 U.P. high school students, and they had hands-on experiences in the speech clinic, radiography, surgical technology and clinical lab science labs.
Riipi handled marketing, catering faculty volunteer efforts, parking and reached out to the high schools. TV6 filmed the event and aired the story, and other departments expressed admiration and desire in joining the event next year.
