Northern Michigan University art and design student Kaysa Gollakner has secured an internship as a product design and communications manager intern with Taproot Law of Marquette. This real-world application of the knowledge and skills she is gaining at NMU will better equip her for future career success.
“In the short term, I want to work on making Taproot's branding more consistent and familiar to the U.P. community,” Gollakner said. “In the long term, I want to promote Taproot Law across the Upper Peninsula, until everyone knows this is the place to come with all legal questions, no matter how big or small.”
“We hope our internship program will be a way to further build local community partnerships with neighbors like NMU, and we're beyond excited to have Kaysa on board,” said Ann Burke, director of Research and Engagement at Taproot. “We know Kaysa will bring design expertise that further improves the legal products, services and communications we are developing for Yoopers.”
Taproot Law, a legal tech firm, is integrating design and storytelling to make law more accessible and understandable for people across the Upper Peninsula. It is “committed to helping clients accomplish their legal goals in sustainable and innovative ways,” similar to the NMU School of Art and Design mission of helping students “acquire hands-on material techniques and technological skills while exploring diverse modes of thinking during the production of art and design work, fostering a sustainable, creative practice.”
