Gould Earns an Excellence in Service Award

Gould (from a TV news report)

Lee Gould, NMU safety/fire marshall, is a 2021 Excellence in Service Award recipient. He was asked to co-chair the Safety and Risk Enforcement Logistics team, composed of individuals from different areas across campus and charged with developing a plan to promote the health and safety of the university. The group met at least weekly, and often multiple times a week, to work through safety plans.

Gould also worked closely at NMU with Facilities, IT and the Safety Department to develop a Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) program that was utilized to procure and distribute PPE to requesting departments across campus. According to Gould's award description, “his background in life safety served him well in this leadership role, and his ability to organize a group to develop solutions made him an excellent co-chair to this team.”

Gould was also instrumental in keeping the university compliant in its various life safety systems and the required inspections by Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration and National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health.

“Under normal circumstances, this is a full-time job,” stated Gould's award description. “Add in the COVID-19 planning and Lee performed at the highest level without question. Lee stepped up and went above and beyond during this past year.”

NMU honored several individuals and teams during its virtual 2021 Faculty and Staff Recognition Celebration. Employees were also honored for years-of-service milestones and retirement during the event. See all of those highlighted, along with the award winners, here
