Ryan Meister of Walled Lake, Mich., has been named the Northern Michigan University Economics Department 2020-21 outstanding graduating senior. He will graduate May 1, having earned the scholastic recognition of Magna Cum Laude.
Meister was a Ronald E. McNair Scholar and worked with Economics Professor Hugo Eyzaguirre on research regarding migration in the Upper Peninsula. After completing his McNair work, Meister continued his professional relationship with Eyzaguirre by serving as the Center for Economic Education and Entrepreneurship's student worker.
Meister assisted with the economic impact analysis for the Boteco Ore Dock project. He has also served as an economics tutor since his sophomore year. Meister plans to pursue a doctorate in economics at West Virginia University. His career goal is to become an economics professor.
