Memorial Chili Challenge at NMU

Northern Michigan University’s Hospitality Club will present the Memorial Chili Challenge from 1-3:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, at the Jacobetti Complex. Admission is $5 for students and children and $10 for the general public. There will be door prizes, with additional chances to win for those who bring non-perishable items. The Hospitality Club is also seeking professional and amateur competitors to participate. Awards will be presented for Best Use of Heat, Most Original and People’s Choice.

“The NMU Hospitality Club, formerly known as the Culinary Students of NMU, has been planning Memorial Chili Challenges for around 20 years,” said Olivia Johnson, president of the Hospitality Club. “This event was created to honor chefs and students who supported the NMU hospitality program throughout the years and have passed on. This chili challenge has brought the NMU and Marquette communities closer together and the event has supported local non-profit organizations. The NMU Memorial Chili Challenge also helps the club members strengthen their skills in the hospitality industry, such as contacting vendors, asking for donations, setting up events and much more.”

The event proceeds will be given to Room at the Inn, a local organization that offers food and shelter to the homeless population in Marquette.
