NCLL Hosts 'Immigration Prejudice' Program

The Northern Center for Lifelong Learning will present "Immigration Prejudice: How Much is it Recycled?" from 1-3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17, at NMU's Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center in Gries Hall. The registration deadline is Friday, Aug. 10.

Gabe Logan, director of the Center for U.P. Studies and NMU history professor, will examine historical immigration cartoons, legal reviews questioning whether Finns were subject to the Anti-Chinese Immigration Act and Ben Franklin railing against Germans in Pennsylvania. In small groups, participants will identify current anti-immigration rhetoric and make comparisons to history.

The cost is $3 for NCLL members and $6 for non-members. To register, call 227-2979. For more information, contact program liaison Sandi Poindexter at 361-1820.
