NMU Global Campus Hosts Grand Rapids Gathering

Northern Michigan University's Global Campus will host a meet and greet in Grand Rapids so that online students can network with each other. The event will take place from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 6th, at Founders Brewery.

“Most Global Campus students are never required to come to campus,” said Associate Director of Academic Support Services Carly Harrington. “Without required in-person contact, it can be difficult to build a community and form connections with fellow students, faculty and staff.  Meet and greet events will help us meet students where they are and build connections for our distance education students. We chose Grand Rapids for the inaugural event and look forward to hosting additional events at new locations in the future.”

The location was chosen specifically for the convenience of online students in that area. According to Harrington, there's a large population of online students within an hour of Grand Rapids, so an hour trip for a networking event would be much easier to travel for compared to a possible multiple hour journey to Marquette. Plus, they wanted a location that was easily identifiable and desirable as a destination.
