NMU Grad in National Dance Contest

A still from the Doskeys' dancing video

Northern Michigan University graduate Emily Doskey ‘14 BSN and her husband, Luke Doskey—both Houghton natives—are in the Top 50 in Michael Bublé and Derek Hough's national "Higher" Dance Contest. They are hoping to crack the Top 25 in public voting that closes early Sunday at 3 a.m. EST. The couple entered the competition by submitting a video of them dancing the Argentine tango to Bublé's song "Higher."

“We wanted to showcase something not choreographed, but a video that was natural and improvisational,” Emily stated. “This video was not edited and we gave it one attempt to film. We wanted to highlight to others the importance of purely dancing to the music and being in sync with your partner. It's something everyone can do but starts with just one step which just might be in your living room!”

“We would love support from the U.P. and our undergraduate schools, NMU and Michigan Technological University. We started going to dances together when we dated in college. Our love for partner dancing started in the U.P.”

The contest was created in celebration of having Bublé appear on Dancing With The Stars, where dancers pair with celebrities to compete in ballroom dancing. The competition winners will win a dream trip to Los Angeles for four, including tickets to the Dancing With The Stars finale, tickets to Disneyland, a one-on-one FaceTime with Michael and a private dance lesson with Derek Hough.
