Northern Michigan University jazz ensembles will perform a free concert at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 17, in Reynolds Recital Hall. The performance will be directed by Mark Flaherty, professor and Music Department chair, along with instructors Patrick Booth and Dave Ziegner.
The NMU Jazz Band is a standard big band with nearly 20 players and a mixture of majors and non-majors. There will also be three jazz combos composed of smaller ensembles.
“Audiences can look forward to a great evening of live music performed by talented student musicians,” said Flaherty.
A variety of music from straight-ahead swing to more modern compositions will be performed. Pieces by composers such as Duke Ellington, Dean Sorenson, Fred Sturm, Tommy Flanagan and many others will be featured.
