NMU Music Concert Feb. 21

Northern Michigan University's Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 21, at Reynolds Recital Hall. Admission is free and masks are required for all individuals inside NMU facilities.

For the symphonic band, Chester by William Schuman was a 1778 hymn and marching song adopted by the continental army in the American Revolution. In addition, the band will perform West Side Story by Stephen Sondheim and Leonard Bernstein, Sea Song by Ralph Vaughn Williams and others.

The wind ensemble will perform Variations on 'America' by Charles Ives.

“This piece presents a very interesting and entertaining set of variations based on Ives' unique composition style,” said Stephen Grugin, Northern's director of bands and professor.

The wind ensemble will also perform One Life Beautiful by Julie Giroux, A Night in Tunisia by John “Dizzy” Gillespie and Frank Paparelli, among others.

This is the first in-person performance that the groups have held with an audience since Feb. 2020. For more information, please visit: https://nmu.edu/music/ensembles
