Northern Michigan University’s School of Health and Human Performance will offer three American Heart Association courses this summer: certification in both First Aid/CPR/AED and Basic Life Support; and a non-certified community Family & Friends CPR course. The schedule is contingent on demand and staff availability. Pre-registration is required. NMU students, faculty, staff, spouses and retirees receive a $10 discount on the certification courses.
The Heartsaver First Aid/CPR/AED certification course will be offered from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on either Saturday, June, 23, or Saturday, Aug. 25, in PEIF room 241. The fee is $87 for the general public and $77 for the NMU community. Click here to register.
The basic life support (BLS) certification course will be offered from 5-9 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, or from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11. Fees are $70 public/$60 NMU. Register here.
The AHA’s Family & Friends CPR course is a video-based classroom course intended for anyone who wants to learn CPR in an Instructor-led or facilitated group environment. It is designed for people who do not need a course completion card for a job or other requirements. According to the AHA, almost 70 percent of cardiac arrests occur at home and only 45 percent of cardiac arrest victims receive CPR from bystanders. The course will be offered from 6-8:30 p.m. on three dates: Monday, June 11; Tuesday, July 17; and Monday, Aug. 20. Register for $10 here.
