The Northern Michigan University Percussion Ensemble holding its first concert of the season at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6, in Reynolds Recital Hall. Admission is free and open to the public.
The NMU Percussion Ensemble performs a wide variety of music, including contemporary works, world music and standard literature.
The compositions featured in the Nov. 6 concert include Ionisation by Edgard Varese and Fiddle Faddle by Leroy Anderson, an African xylophone improvisation and a medley of video game themes performed on Boomwhackers,” said director James Strain.
The concert will be performed on standard percussion instruments such as drums, cymbals, gongs, marimbas, xylophones, bells, vibraphones, chimes and timpani, as well as a few unusual instruments, such as air raid sirens, a lion's roar, and anvils.
