NMU Plans Virtual Transfer Week

Northern Michigan University Admissions will host a virtual Transfer Week from Monday, Oct. 12 – Saturday, Oct. 17. The week includes activities planned specifically for NMU transfer students.

“We find that transfer students tend to have different questions than a junior or senior in high school,” said Senior Associate Director of Admissions Kari Garcia. “They want to know how their credits will transfer, how much time it will take to complete their academic program, what kind of advising they will receive and if there is housing available to transfer students or if they will live in the residence halls. Many individuals want to talk with students who have actually transferred to NMU so they can understand the experience.

“Typically during the fall, we host our Wildcat Weekend open house event and have specific resources available during that event for transfer students, so we wanted to find a way to provide those resources to students in a virtual format. That's how Transfer Week was born.”

Students are encouraged to sign up for virtual one-on-one meetings with admissions counselors from their hometown regions to address student questions and to discuss steps that can be taken. Visit https://nmu.edu/admissions/virtual-transfer-week to sign up for a meeting time with a counselor, or to sign up for a video chat or phone call with a current NMU student. Individuals can also use the chat feature on the Admissions homepage to live chat with one of NMU's Admissions Counselors.

Sign up for NMU Admissions' mailing list at https://nmu.edu/admissions/request-info to receive a daily email with Transfer Week events, as well as videos on transfer topics at NMU. NMU's Instagram and Snapchat accounts will feature transfer student takeovers and promotions.
