NMU Requires All to Wear Masks Indoors

Students wearing masks

Effective today (Aug. 24), Northern Michigan University has revised its mask protocol so that all individuals, regardless of vaccination status, must wear masks when indoors at all campus facilities. President Fritz Erickson said the change aligns with CDC recommendations for areas with "substantial" COVID levels. Marquette County's classification recently shifted from moderate to substantial.

The only exceptions to the NMU mask mandate are: outdoors when adequate social distancing is possible; private living spaces (residence hall rooms and apartments); private offices; in a university vehicle when there is a lone occupant; and in a campus eatery when an individual is actively eating.

The mask requirement includes visitors on campus and groups renting NMU facilities.
