Northern Michigan University ranks 18th in the nation and first in Michigan for the “2020 Best Online Master of Public Administration (MPA) Degree Programs” listing compiled by College Consensus.

Northern's MPA degree is designed for students with or without prior relevant work experience. The program expands their theoretical understanding of the field of public administration and helps them to develop essential competency in basic methodological and technical areas.

Students also select one of the following concentrations to advance their career expertise: criminal justice administration, human resource administration, state and local government, and public management.

“Online education is booming, but not all online programs are created equal,” wrote College Consensus Marketing Director Carole Taylor in an email notification. “With potential online students wanting the best schools with the greatest affordability, most convenience, and highest ROI [return on investment], College Consensus has put together the top programs in the country with these high standards.”

Online MPA degrees provide robust educational foundations for managerial and leadership positions in nonprofit and public sectors, stated the introduction to the rankings. Graduates of these degrees go on to work in government agencies, nonprofits, public management, health and human services, and nongovernmental organizations.

College Consensus examined schools offering distance-based MPA and EMPA programs, then ranked them based on reputation, convenience and affordability.
