Northern Michigan University radiology student Mara Heino is one of 11 "exceptional individuals" selected to receive $20,000 scholarships from the KFC Foundation. The program is designed to help KFC restaurant employees pursue their college dreams. Heino works at the Marquette franchise.

According to a press release, Heino is a three-time scholarship recipient. She began her journey with KFC on her 16th birthday as a team member and, in the four years since, has risen to the role of shift supervisor.

Outside of work and school, she serves as vice president with her local 4-H and is passionate about teaching the younger generation how to raise and show livestock correctly. After graduation, Heino is excited to start her career as an x-ray technician and hopes to continue her education to become a computed tomography or interventional radiology technician.
