Northern Michigan University undergraduate and graduate students will share their academic contributions, ranging from research posters and oral presentations to creative writing and artwork, during the 27th annual Celebration of Student Scholarship on Thursday, April 20, in Jamrich Hall. The event is returning to an in-person format and is open to the public.
An opening ceremony where research poster winners will be announced begins at 9 a.m. in Jamrich 1320. Oral presentations will be held in the same space from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Poster presentations will be on display in the building's first-floor lobbies from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“Our annual Celebration of Student Scholarship is a special event in which students at all levels from all disciplines are encouraged to present their research and scholarly efforts,” said Tesse Sayen, director of the Office of Sponsored Programs. “Being a fully live event for this 27th iteration, there will be a great opportunity for the NMU and larger Marquette community to see and hear, in person, the kinds of research happening at NMU.
“Past Celebration events have showcased over 175 posters and oral presentations. This year, we have research that ranges from things like How Heart Rate is Affected by Driving Conditions to Corrections Officer Turnover and How Nutrition Affects Mental Health. The planning committee in the College of Graduate Studies and Research is excited to provide this opportunity to connect researchers and interested community members.”
Presentations were submitted from nearly every academic department on campus. Posters highlight research conducted by students from all levels, from first-year to master's degree-seeking. Research projects focus on a wide variety of topics, from decolonizing entrepreneurship, brook trout and burbots to CBD use and college student mental health.
