Winter Roots Festival Feb. 23

The Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center at Northern Michigan University is one of several community organizations sponsoring the Winter Roots Festival on Sunday, Feb. 23. The festival will offer a full day of folk music, dance and workshops at a variety of venues throughout the Marquette area.

Workshops will be offered at the Peter White Public Library from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. followed by traditional folk dancing from 1-5 p.m. Performances by a variety of local musicians such as Michael Waite and Sue Demel will occur from 1-5 p.m. at the Ore Dock Brewing Company and Marquette Commons. The festival will culminate with a performance of the composition “Whiskey Before Breakfast” by the Marquette Symphony Orchestra featuring Westbound Situation at 7:30 p.m. at Kaufman Auditorium.

Buttons can be purchased at the Beaumier Center, Hiawatha office and PWPL. Price is $10 for patrons ages 13 and up and patrons age 12 and under will be admitted free of charge. Please note the button does not include admission to the orchestra performance at Kaufman Auditorium. Those tickets can be purchased through NMU EZ ticket outlets and are $27 for adults, $12 for students and $9 for patrons age 12 and under.
