Youth Musical Theater and Dance Intensive Offered

To celebrate its 60th anniversary, Northern Michigan University Theatre and Dance invites youth ages 13 through high school seniors to attend a musical theater and dance intensive. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, with lunch provided, in Forest Roberts Theatre.

Students will participate in workshops in various dance styles divided into two levels and musical theater elements. Faculty members Jill Grundstrom, Karina Johnson, Kristen Beth Ludwig and Jimmy Ludwig will lead the workshops.

Students will also learn a piece of musical theater choreography and are invited to perform in the opening number of the NMU Theatre and Dance Alumni Awards Ceremony that evening at 7:30 p.m. A run-through of the production number will take place on stage at 3:30 p.m. Parents and guardians are invited to watch the stage rehearsal and attend the awards ceremony that evening.

Recommended workshop attire is dance clothes that are comfortable to move in and dance shoes or socks. Outdoor shoes are not allowed in the studio spaces. Performance attire will be a provided NMU theatre and dance t-shirt, and students must wear jeans or black leggings or joggers, sneakers or dance shoes.

Space is limited to 25 attendees. A cost of $75 per student is required. Interested participants must sign up and sign the provided release forms and email them to nmutd@nmu.edu, or bring physical copies at the start of the workshop.
