Alumna joins Marquette Family Medicine Residency Program

Dr. Ashley Parent

Dr. Ashley Parent, a 2012 Northern Michigan University graduate, has joined the Marquette Family Medicine Residency Program as a faculty member, according to an announcement from UP Health Systems and Michigan State University.

The Marquette native earned a bachelor of science degree in biology/physiology from NMU and attended Michigan State University College of Human Medicine in East Lansing. She spent the last two years of medical school in the Rural Physicians Program at the UP Campus in Marquette. She said being able to return to the region as a board-certified internist, and a member of a community that includes family and friends, has been fulfilling.

“I look forward to working with the Family Medicine residents during their training,” said Dr. Parent. “I have been fortunate to have had many wonderful mentors, and I hope that I can provide that support to others.”

According to the release, under her position as a new faculty member, Dr. Parent is responsible for precepting residents, curriculum oversight, and providing ongoing support throughout the program's clinical, teaching, and administrative duties.

“We're all very excited to add Dr. Parent as a faculty member,” said Program Director Dr. Brian Waite. “Being from the U.P., she understands our patients and their needs, but coming from an internal ,edicine program, she brings experience and training we wouldn't otherwise be able to provide our residents. We look forward to seeing all of the great things she can bring to us.”

Parent attended the internal medicine residency at Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids, graduating in June 2021.
