NMU alumnus Dale Moilanen ('91 BS) recently ran a distance to match his age: a 60K, which equates to 37 miles. His goal was to raise $600 to support construction of a new facility named after another NMU grad: the Steve Mariucci Family Beacon House. Moilanen ended up raising 10 times that amount—nearly $6,000—when he asked friends to donate $60 each to the cause.

For more than 18 years, Beacon House has provided a home away from home for patients and their families receiving critical medical care in Marquette. Steve and Gayle Mariucci helped launch the Legacy of Love campaign, donated $500,000 to help build a new Beacon House next door to the new U.P. Health System Marquette and put the first shovels in the ground last August. A targeted grand opening celebration for the new facility is planned by Christmas, according to the Beacon House website.
