Several Northern Michigan University student organizations are collaborating on a full slate of activities to mark the eighth annual Anderton's Earth Week. The April 18-23 event honors the memory of John Anderton, a former geography professor and department head who passed away unexpectedly in March 2014. It includes an Earth Week Fair presented by the participating groups from noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, in the first-floor atrium of Jamrich Hall.
Activities scheduled during the week and the sponsoring student organizations are as follows:
Monday, April 18
-Nashville Hot Chickenless Nugget Sampling, Northern Lights Dining, noon-2 p.m., Animal Club
-Poster-making session, 6-7:30 p.m. in Olson Library 311, DivestNMU
Tuesday, April 19
-Reusable T-shirt Bag Workshop, noon to 1 p.m. at the Outdoor Learning Area pavilion, Gamma Theta Upsilon
-Plogging Event, 6-7:30 p.m. at the PEIF, EcoReps, in collaboration with Queen City Running
Wednesday, April 20
-Earth Week Fair, first floor of Jamrich, all participating organizations
-Screening of the Patagonia documentary Public Trust, 6-9 p.m. in Jamrich 3317, EcoReps
Thursday, April 21
-Clothing Swap, noon to 4 p.m. in the Jamrich atrium, EcoReps
-Northern Beekeeping presentation with Joel Lantz, 4-5:30 p.m., NMU Apiculture
-DivestED speaker addresses fossil fuel divestment, 7-8:30 p.m. in Jamrich 1311, DivestNMU
Friday, April 22
-EcoReps Birdfeeder-Making Workshop with Great Start Collaborative at Harlow Park (bring pinecones), 10 a.m. to noon
-DivestNMU Climate Action March, speaker and tabling; start and finish at the Wildcat statue, noon to 3 p.m.
-Marquette Citizens Climate Lobby Trash Pickup, with NMU Conservation Club and Superior Healing Initiative, 4-6:30 p.m., Marquette Commons.
Saturday, April 23:
-NMU Conservation Club 5K run, bike or walk, 9 a.m. at Clark Lambros Beach
-Anderton's Earth Week Hike at the North Country Trail/Songbird Trailhead at 11 a.m. (or carpool from the Outdoor Learning Area pavilion at 10:45 a.m.)
