Jill Compton, director of internal audit and risk management at Northern Michigan University, is a 2021 Excellence in Service Award recipient. She was asked to co-chair the Safety and Risk Enforcement Logistics team and, according to her award description, “took this responsibility seriously and provided outstanding leadership.”

When Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) placed a pandemic order, Compton was a leader in developing a MIOSHA work plan in compliance with the state's changes based on available data. Compton was instrumental in developing and implementing the consent form that was utilized in the “Return to Campus” Passport program and was present at all the testing events to ensure they went smoothly.

“With her calming demeanor, she would work with students that were struggling to navigate through the process until solutions were realized,” stated her award description. “She is always professional, friendly and accommodating. Jill is the go-to person for many compliance issues and her positive attitude makes her a valuable member of the university community.”

NMU honored several individuals and teams during its virtual 2021 Faculty and Staff Recognition Celebration. Employees were also honored for years-of-service milestones and retirement during the event. See all of those highlighted, along with the award winners, here.
