Emma Drever of Forest Park, Ill., has been named the Northern Michigan University English Department 2020-21 outstanding graduating senior. She is graduating May 1 with a double major in English and Spanish and plans to pursue a graduate degree in comparative literature.
During her studies at Northern, Drever served as president of the student government organization, ASNMU.
She also formed a relationship between NMU and the University of Oxford, which culminated in her study abroad there in Winter 2019. Utilizing research from her time abroad, she presented a paper at the Northeast MLA conference in Boston in 2020. She had plans to continue her research after winning the Lundin Summer Research Scholarship in 2020. These plans were delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
