Martha Falin of Port Huron, Mich., has been named one of three Northern Michigan University Social Work Department 2020-21 outstanding graduating graduate students. Falin will earn her master's degree May 1 as part of the first cohort of students in the Master of Social Work program.
Falin has a 4.0 grade-point average and graduated with honors in May 2019 with a bachelor's degree in social work. She has participated in three internships throughout her time at Northern: one at Great Lakes Recovery Centers and two working with Pathways Community Mental Health.
Falin plans to move downstate after graduation to pursue a career working with individuals who have co-occurring addiction and mental health problems. She said that she has a life-time goal of getting a doctoral degree in public administration/public health after years of practice so she may use her experience to guide and affect larger-scale change.
NMU's virtual commencement will be held at 10 a.m. EST Saturday, May 1. Bryan Terrell Clark, a Broadway performer who played George Washington in Hamilton, will be the keynote speaker. Learn more about commencement and access a link to watch it live at www.nmu.edu/commencement.
