Filmmaker Gloria Z. Greenfield will discuss her latest work, “The Fight of Our Lives: Defeating the Ideological War Against the West,” following a special screening of the film at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, in Jamrich 1100. The event is free and open to the public.

This documentary examines the internal and external threats facing the West. The distinguished cast of scholars and experts trace the penetration of anti-Western ideas and movements into academia, politics and society.

Experts featured in the film include historian Niall Ferguson, author and journalist Melanie Phillips, historian Victor Davis Hanson, Muslim reformer Raheel Raza, Alan M. Dershowitz and Brooke Goldstein. All combine to help Greenfield's hard-hitting documentary present an argument that the West is facing a lethal threat to its way of life and to Western culture and tradition.

“Civilizations, empires, great powers can fall apart very fast. Collapse can come suddenly like a thief in the night,” said Ferguson in the film.

According to an article in SunSentinel, Greenfield said she set out on this film to “to examine the broader context of the war against western civilization and values, an ideological war that's a persecution and assault on the Judeo-Christian tradition and on our freedoms.”

The NMU Center for Academic and Intellectual Freedom is presenting this event as part of its Safe Space for Intellectual Freedom initiative 2019-20. Light refreshments will be provided.
